Custom Modified Stainless Steel Air-Blast System

empire stainless steel blast cabinetWe recently completed a unique project for a Custom Modified 304 Stainless Steel Air-Blast System, where all components that come into contact with abrasive media were required to be fabricated from 304 stainless steel. This request was unusual, as stainless steel is typically only specified for the interior of the blast cabinet. However, for this project, the stainless steel requirement extended to the reclaimer, storage hopper, pressure vessel, and more.

Beyond the extensive use of stainless steel, the system featured several other customizations to enhance safety and ergonomics. These upgrades were implemented in a Custom Modified Pro-Finish 6060 Cabinet with Turntable.

Background and Project Goals

This project began as a replacement for a stainless steel cabinet originally manufactured and delivered by Empire in 1996. After 28 years of reliable operation, the customer decided to upgrade to a larger stainless steel cabinet with modern enhancements to improve production efficiency.

Enhanced Safety Features

These enhancements go beyond those included in our Industrial-Electrical-Package (IEP) upgrade which includes a fused disconnect controlled by red and green push buttons on the front panel and an electronic foot pedal integrated with a limit switch on the cabinet door. This feature halts the blast process immediately if the door is opened during operation, ensuring maximum operator safety.

Operator Comfort and Ergonomic Design

Customizations to improve operator comfort and control were also key aspects of this project. Features included padded armrests with height adjustments (a standard feature in our Ergo-Blast Cabinets) and a front-mounted choke valve for convenient access when clearing the blast line.

Optimized Media Flow for Varied Parts

To address this, a remote control for fine-tuning media flow was added to the front of the cabinet, allowing operators to make quick adjustments without interrupting the blasting process.

Summary

This project exemplifies our ability to meet unique customer requirements, delivering a stainless steel air-blast system with enhanced safety, improved ergonomics, and operator-friendly controls. The result is a robust, modernized solution that will provide the customer with years of reliable performance.
